A circular segment refers to the area of a circle that is "cut off" by a secant (or chord), resulting in a partial segment of the circle.

A circular sector—also known as a circle sector—is defined as the portion of a disk enclosed by two radii and an arc. The smaller sector is termed the minor sector, while the larger is the major sector. In typical diagrams, θ denotes the central angle in radians, r represents the radius, and L signifies the arc length of the minor sector.

A sector with a central angle of 180° constitutes a half-disk, bounded by a diameter and a semicircle. Other notable sectors include quadrants (90°), sextants (60°), and octants (45°), corresponding to divisions into four, six, and eight parts of a full circle, respectively.

The inscribed angle—formed by connecting the endpoints of an arc to any other point on the circumference outside the sector—is always half of the central angle subtended by that arc.
